NORTHBRIDGE GOLF CLUB LIMITED JUNIOR GOLF REPORT 2020/21
As with every aspect of life over the past twelve months, our junior golf program has encountered some impediments due to the scourge of Covid 19. Nonetheless, we have battled on and the golfing year has overall been very positive and, hopefully, fun for all our young participants. The improvement in many of our juniors has been extraordinary and in the very near future, we will see several pushing for places in the Club’s senior representative teams.
At the time of writing, our clinic program has been on hold for the past two months courtesy of Public Health Orders. Before these kicked in, we had a large, keen group of boys and girls regularly attending. ClinicshavebeenheldonMonday,TuesdayandWednesdayafternoons, plusacoupleonboth Saturday and Sunday mornings. Following consistent attendance at the clinics, a number of the juniors have improved so significantly that they have now acquired their GA handicap and are competing in the Club’smembercompetitions. I’msureourregulargolfershavenotedthelargenumberofjuniorssharing the course with them. Hopefully we can restart the clinics in the near future.
The winners of the major junior events for the year are:
2021 Junior Championship Winner - Leon Li
2021 Junior Championship Runner-Up - Danny Mascarenhas 2021 Cadet Championship Winner - Jamie Lowe
2021 Cadet Championship Runner-Up - Ayaan Rais
2021 Junior Knockout Winner - Hamish Smith
2021 Junior Knockout Runner-Up - Cameron Newton.
Congratulations to each of you on these fantastic achievements.
For the first time in the Club’s history, we fielded two teams in the annual Encourage Shield competition. Our Red team comprised of Karl Ang, Ishan Nayani, Anika Nayani, Liam Morrison, Cameron Newton, Ayaan Rais, Bailey Lam, Aram Tontian and Benjamin Chao. These lucky boys and girl were fortunate to play on great courses including Bayview, Balgowlah, Kogarah and Cromer. Though only experiencing moderate success, it was the introduction to representative golf for all of the team, and I’m sure they will be consistent winners next time around.
Our Blue team comprised of Hamish Smith, Charlie Smith, Zach France, Jamie Lowe, Thomas Livingstone and Harry Deitz. These boys were drawn in a particularly strong division that included Oatlands, Pennant Hills, North Ryde, Stonecutter’s Ridge and Muirfield. An unfortunate slip up during one of the divisional rounds cost the team progress through to the finals series, but they can take consolation as being the only team to beat the Pennant Hills team that eventually went on to win the metropolitan event. Great work by Jamie to remain undefeated through the divisional rounds.
A big thanks to Nick Deitz and Raffi Tontian for your assistance in managing the teams.
In February and March, Northbridge participated in the Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) event, Junior League. Thiseventisdesignedforboysandgirlsinthe8to12yearsagegroupwhoarenearingacquisition
