Frikkie laughed when explained it
took them about 14 seconds to roll
the joint.
“The reason for the competition is
to raise awareness of outside the
box thinking when it comes to
cannabis enthusiasts and
entrepreneurs alike to work
together to break the stigma around
the plant.
And the possibilities of new
sporting events all because of the
legality that is now in place (in SA),”
Frikkie said.
The first competition took place in
2018 at the first-ever SAbong-a-
thong.
“We also saw the perfect
opportunity to break the current
world record of fastest cannabis
cigarette hand-rolled.”
The competition has been invited to
perform every major cannabis event
in SA.
Frikkie said one of the challenges
about the competition was the
designing and making of the title
belt.
“It took a long time to plan how the
belts should look and to the correct
material to make proper champion
chip quality belt.”
“The belts went through a longer
designing process than we thought.
We literally had to do them over
twice,” explained.
Frikkie further said they are busy
designing a few new divisions that
can lead a similar event with similar
interests.
“We want to be seen as an actual
sport.
“We would like to be seen as a
serious competition. Because that is
what we are, believe me, we really
have some serious competitors,”
Frikkie said.
