When die cutting acetate or vellum, sandwich between two sheets of copier paper to stop the acetate/vellum getting scratched or damaged.
Avoid increasing the pressure too much as this will stretch or buckle the card, run it through the die cutting machine a couple of times, rotating the die on each pass.
Always use the correct sandwich of plates for the function you are doing, for example die cutting, embossing or embossing folders – make friends with your machine!
When using intricate dies cut two layers at the same time. You will get all of the detail on the top layer and a perfect mat layer on the layer below.
To make your plates last a little bit longer, place a piece of copier paper between your cardstock and the plates. It will help to protect from marks (and as a bonus this also acts as a shim).
Invest in a set of A4 shims, if you have a smaller machine, cut down to size and keep in place with a tape runner.
When working with 3D decoupage dies, use 180gsm paper and cut into two printed sheets taped together at the same time.
Die cut into folded sticky roll, peel off the back and add to glass or acetate. Peel away the carrier tape and add glitter or embossing powders.
