The Network is You
Friends,
You are the “network” part of Healthnetwork Foundation.
As the founder, I tend to get the credit for this. But
the truth is, Healthnetwork has grown into something
so much more than I ever dreamed. You get the credit
for that. Your talent, your resources, your commitment
to giving back—that is what has made Healthnetwork
strong for 31 years.
Earlier this year, we got an unusual request from the
family of a former marine. The marine had worked with
a translator in Afghanistan, and now the Taliban had
put a price on the man’s head. The family wanted to
know if we could help.
My first thought was, This is not what we do.
My second thought was, We know people who know
people. Let’s see what we can do.
In a matter of days, we mobilized a group of marines
to get the interpreter and his seven daughters safely
out of Afghanistan.
Clearly, that story is not representative of our typical
means of helping families with healthcare. (You’ll read
several of those stories in the following pages.) But I
mention it to show how this network is made up of
so many brilliant and well-connected people who
genuinely want to help. As they say in basketball,
we have a deep bench!
