olf in Las Vegas has been big-time since the playing of the
PGA TOUR’s 1953 Tournament of Champions at the old
GDesert Inn Golf and Country Club. Good ole Al Besselink
won $10,000 silver dollars that year and hauled them away in a
wheelbarrow flanked by showgirls. It’s safe to say that Besselink and
the other legends in the field back then didn’t have any idea about
swing speeds, spin rates or launch angles as related to the golf swing.
Some six decades later, technology is a huge part of the game and
if players don’t evolve with the times, they are at a disadvantage.
Now, the UNLV Professional Golf Management program is on the
cutting edge and leading the way over other PGM programs across
the country with the opening of the Dwaine Knight Center for Pro-
fessional Golf Management.
