EVENT

But it’s the PGA Tour that has had the most time in the
spotlight. The Tour has stopped in Las Vegas since 1983,
with TPC Summerlin now as the only course for the pre-
mier event. In the earlier days, the Tour’s stop here has seen
play at other area courses during the tournament (espe-
cially when the event was a whopping 90 holes) playing the
likes of TPC Las Vegas, Bear’s Best, Southern Highlands
and others—some courses that are still going strong and a
few courses that no longer exist.

And now the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort joins the group
of courses that have welcomed professional golf with open
arms. It’s an honor they don’t take lightly. “Any tour golf
in Las Vegas is very beneficial to the city,” said Jeff Reid,
general manager of the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. “It
was nice to have the event at Shadow Creek as well. It’s just
going to be great publicity for the city first and foremost.”
Reid said they jumped at the chance to play host to the Korn
Ferry event. “We were approached by bdG Sports to see if
we would be interested,” Reid said. “We were excited. A lot
of it had to do with the partnerships they have in place here.
They work with MGM, which is also a partner for us. They
produce a lot of basketball tournaments, so it will be great
to work with them in putting on this golf tournament.”

At the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, three Pete Dye layouts
mix golf course design into the natural surroundings per-
fectly. All three--the Sun Mountain, the Snow Mountain and
The Wolf—offer players risk/reward holes, brilliant white-
sand bunkers, deep-blue ponds and true-rolling greens.
Call it 54 holes of golf paradise. It’s a golf resort that local
players and visitors dream about. And come tournament
week, the pros will take part in an event the Paiute staff has
been prepping to unveil to the golf world.

While the three courses all have their fans, it’s the Sun
Mountain course that will take center stage. It’s a layout
that reaches 7,112 yards from the tips. The course offers
stunning views and is a solid test of golf from start to fin-
ish. Though it may not be the toughest course the pros will
tackle, it definitely has more than its share of challenges.
And those challenges start with the finishing hole on each
nine. These two holes can make or break the tournament
for players on any of the four days. The 9th and 18th holes,
both par 4s, end the nines with stunning and Dye-namic
style. With ponds, bunkers and slight doglegs, both will test
players’ aggressiveness, shot-making ability and putting
