ummer is right around the corner, a
time to be outside and enjoy outdoor
spaces—have a meal on the patio,
entertain, relax, spend time in the
S pool. But with summer come toasty
temperatures, making pool water as warm as a bath,
patios too hot for lingering long. Overhead protec-
tion is the answer, but not just any covering.
Shade sails are what you need, and Got Shade is
the place to go. We’ve all seen them, those often-
skewed rectangles that make you feel they were just
taken off a sailboat. They’re fairly new on the scene,
and predicted to become more popular. As Got
Shade founder/owner Derek Warner says, “They’re
very hip,” fitting into the modern design vibe of the
Las Vegas area.

Over a decade ago, Warner wanted a shade sail for
his home and purchased it online. After inspect-
ing it, he was quite unimpressed; still, he installed
it, feeling he had little choice. Friends started ask-
ing where he got it, and strangers left notes on his
door. Soon he was purchasing them and installing
them for others, though still very dissatisfied with
the quality of the product and how they fit. Being
a what-makes-things-work kind of guy, he figured
out how he could do it better—thus the beginnings
of Got Shade. Today, they make their own shades
and frames. “We’re not the only ones doing this, but
there aren’t a lot doing it the way we do,” he says.
