Isaac
Shriners Children’s Spokane
Isaac, 16, lives in Spokane, Washington. Isaac loves
soccer — he started playing when he was young, and
when he was 12, he decided to become a referee.
Isaac was born six weeks early with many medical
complications. He had a stroke when he was a year
old, causing paralysis on his left side and reducing
function in his left arm and leg. When he was 6, he
was no longer able to walk and his parents brought
Isaac to Shriners Children’s Spokane. He has had
many surgeries to help improve the function of his left
side. The most recent was in July 2021, when surgeons
performed five different procedures in a team effort to
straighten his leg and loosen tight muscles. The results
have been phenomenal, allowing Isaac to referee many
more soccer games.
