make it easier on her and her fam-
ily as she embarks on this new path,
and she was thrilled to have received
it. Walters donated $100,000 a few
years ago, and several other young
people have been awarded schol-
arships from the fund. He is also
committed to additional donations
in the future according to Las Vegas
Golf Hall of Fame president Joe Kelly.
“To have the opportunity to help some of these worthy young
people is very rewarding and we are honored at the Las Vegas
Golf Hall of Fame to be a part of this process and appreci-
ate the partnership with the Southern Nevada Junior Golf
Association as well,” says Kelly. “The quality of applicants
each year blows us away due to what they have accomplished
on and off the golf course, whether it be tournament wins,
extracurricular activities, community service or terrific
grades. We wish we could give away more and reward these
kids and others, and that is definitely our goal and we are
committed to helping as many as we can. Also, Bill and Susan
Walters should be recognized for their generous donation to
help fund the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame Scholarship.”
Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association Scholarships
Chenevey was one of several deserving young people to
earn scholarships awarded by a joint
committee featuring representa-
tives from the Southern Nevada
Junior Golf Association and the Las
Vegas Golf Hall of Fame. Longtime
Clark County School District exec-
utive Steve McCoy helps oversee
the process. His father, Mac McCoy was the first superinten-
dent inducted into the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame. McCoy
worked at Las Vegas Golf Club for several decades and the
family lived in a house adjacent the 15th hole. The house is
now unoccupied, but remains at the course.
Over the years, the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association
has awarded more than $400,000 in college scholarships. “It’s
exciting and an honor for all of us at the Southern Nevada
Junior Golf Association to be able to do something that helps
form the next generation of leaders in our community,” says
Tim Quinn, SNJGA president and a member of the selection
committee.
