ith golf courses reopening across the
country, many people will be returning to
the green, whether it’s because they were
regulars before the pandemic or because
W they’re simply looking for a fresh way to
hang out with others while still socially distanced.
Golf requires both mobility and power, which places strain
on the body, especially for newbies and specifically on mus-
cles that aid in rotation and stabilization throughout the
core. You will find that golfers tend to experience inflex-
ibility throughout the back, hips and upper chest areas.
This is why professional golfers like Peter Jacobsen visit
stretching studios like StretchLab, the boutique one-on-one
assisted stretching franchise every week.
Austin Martinez joined the StretchLab corporate team in
January 2019 as the Director of Education. He is a Certified
Athletic Trainer with both his Bachelor’s and Master’s
Degree in Athletic Training. Austin has experience primar-
ily working with collegiate and professional athletes. He
is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association
(NATA), National Strength and Conditioning Association
(NSCA), Far West Athletic Trainers Association (FWATA),
and is a published author in the Journal of Sports Medicine
and Allied Health Sciences for his research on ACL injuries.
Austin finds when working with golfers there are several
main areas that need focus—chest, obliques, and quadra-
tus lumborum, and latissimus dorsi muscles. Austin shares
specific stretches needed to help.
