Both the Trump and the No. 9 sales were at significantly higher prices than the top sale
of 2021, a $12.55 million Lincoln Park mansion. According to Crain’s records, the last
year that there were two sales in the Chicago area at $15 million or more was 2015,
when there were three.
The seller was a trust that conceals the owner’s name, and the buyer was another trust
that does the same, according to the March 11 record of the transaction by the Cook
County clerk.
Details, such as size of the interior and of terraces, are not available in the county
records. The interior, as seen on the website of designer James Thomas
Interiors, includes walnut and bronze wall-sized screens and lots of white wall space
designed, the website says, as “a showcase for a larger-than-life art collection.”
The sellers paid a little over $8.9 million for the unit in February 2018, according to the
clerk.
With this No. 9 Walton sale, there have been 37 sales of Chicago-area homes at $4
million or more so far this year. If that pace continues through the year, 2022 will easily
surpass the record-smashing 2021 total of 101 sales at the upper end of the market.
