PROVENANCE…

Benjamin Marshall completed 1200 North Lake Shore Drive in 1912, the last of a particular group of
apartment buildings in the Gold Coast area. Originally ten apartments, each occupying a full floor, the
structure was built in the Adams style, a neo-classical tradition characterized by a stately façade of
refined simplicity, delicate low-relief ornamentation and monochromatic light colors chosen for
materials and the décor. The arched fan light at the entrance, the chorus of Corinthian columns and
pilasters in the Reception Lobby, and the broad bow windows on the east side of the building
encompass the beauty of the building.

Born into Chicago’s elite and influenced by European travel, Marshall’s design offered full floor
apartments with grand space for formal entertaining, but separate from the private family bedrooms and
removed from the staff areas. Families were able to live in the spacious apartment and have both the
privacy they demanded and the space they required.

1200 North Lake Shore Drive continues today to be Chicago’s most prominent, desirable and
handsome vintage condominium building.

The current Owners acquired over two thirds of the entire floor and with their refined sense of taste and
style they maintained the gracious architectural detail but updated the apartment for today’s lifestyle.

Beautiful French doors lead from the intimate Outer Lobby into the elegant, two-story, magnificently
appointed Inner Lobby. It is truly the most beautiful Lobby in the city. With its inviting fireplace and
classic architectural detail, it is perfect prelude to the residence.

Ascend the gracious wood paneled elevator to Residence 902, which encompasses the entire front east,
north and south two thirds of the entire floor. You share this floor with only two other apartments.
The hallways have just recently been redecorated.
