PROMOTIONAL MARKETING
East Lake Shore Drive condo sale price ranks 3rd in city
By Bob Goldsborough Chicago Tribune
A five-bedroom, 7,662-square-foot penthouse condo in the
vintage Mayfair building on East Lake Shore Drive came on
the market Friday afternoon for $15.5 million.
The unit’s $2,000-per-square-foot asking price is almost
unheard of in Chicago.
The asking price for the unit is the third-highest for a
residence of any kind in Chicago, after the $32 million
price tag for the penthouse atop Trump International Hotel
& Tower, and the $18.75 million asking price for a 17-room
mansion in Lincoln Park.
The East Lake Shore Drive penthouse listed Friday has 5-1/2 baths, three fireplaces and close
to 3,000 square feet of terrace space. The unit was owned at one time by the building’s
developer, Bruce Abrams, who leapt to his death from the building in 1999. Abrams’ widow
sold the unit to the current owners in 2006 for $8 million.
Listing agent Janet Owen of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff could not be
reached for comment.
Also last week, a two-level, 12,506-square-foot raw penthouse atop a luxury tower in Lincoln
Park came on the market for $12.999 million, and actor Vince Vaughn has informally listed
his penthouse atop the Palmolive building for $14.9 million.
