               Residential: $8.5-million sale

By Andrew Schroedter, August 13, 2010

A managing director at merchant bank Ocean Tomo LLC sold his Lincoln Park
mansion for $8.5 million in one of the city's biggest residential deals of the
year. The 11,000-square-foot home at 1866 N. Howe St. has six bedrooms,
a greenhouse, an in-home theater and an outdoor sports court. The buyer
could not be determined. Property records show the seller was Michael Fried-
man of Chicago-based Ocean, which specializes in intellectual property
transactions. Mr. Friedman listed the home in April for $8.5 million. The deal
closed Tuesday, confirms listing agent Janet Owen. Jay Michael represented
the buyer but declines to disclose his identity. Related story: Residential:

Residential: Lincoln Park mansion under contract fast

By Andrew Schroedter, May 13, 2010

One of the city’s most expensive homes, with an asking price of $8.5 million,
is under contract after barely a month on the market. The 11,000-square-
foot Lincoln Park mansion at 1866 N. Howe St., three blocks east of Halsted
Street, went up for sale April 7. It could not be determined who owns the
home, which includes six bedrooms, an in-home theater and a four-car gar-
age with a half basketball court on the roof. Property records show the
house, built in 2004, is owned by a private trust. The listing agent, Janet
Owen, a residential broker at Chicago-based Sudler Sotheby’s International
Realty, declines to comment on the price or disclose the buyer or seller. Ms.
Owen also is the listing agent for 25 E. Banks St., the home with the highest
asking price in the city, at $9.5 million. The 15,000-square-foot property is
owned by J. P. Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who late last month low-
ered the asking price by $1 million, from $10.5 million.
