1- Explorer in Action (Didi El-Behaedi)

              • Ms. Didi El-Behaedi is a National Geographic Explorer.
              • Ms. El-Behaedi uses the knowledge and experience she has gained in her
excavations in Egypt to learn more about the country’s cultural heritage.
              • She has been working in Fayum governorate.

              • She uses geospatial technologies, such as

                              1 2 3

                        • Geographic • Remote • Global
                         Information Sensing (RS) Positioning
                         System (GIS) System (GPS)

             • These technologies assist in the geographic mapping and analysis of Earth and
              human societies.
              • Ms. El-Behaedi has worked as a remote sensing research consultant at NASA.

              • Ms. El-Behaedi uses computers to find new archeological sites This is called
              “machine learning”
              • “Machine learning” is inputting data about known archeological sites and
programming the computer to look for similar sites.
              • She writes her texts, creates figures, and edits images using her laptop and

                iPad
              • To protect her information, she installs an antivirus software, uses strong
passwords on her devices, and frequently backs up her data.
                       Remote sensing:

                     • It helps us collect data from places that are dangerous or otherwise
                       impossible to access.
