Behind the mask
I put on a mask each morning
The face that others may see
And no-one to my knowledge
Has ever seen the real me
If others were not so critical
Towards those who are in need
Of self respect and confidence
Life would be easier indeed
Not one of us is perfect
Or entitled to throw doubt
On the efforts of another
To know what life’s about
Don’t look at me with human eyes
That’s why I need the mask
Just try to see behind it
That’s really all I ask
