Hortatory text structure is a type of writing that aims to persuade or convince readers to adopt a
certain viewpoint or take specific action. It follows a specific structure and employs persuasive
language and logical arguments to support its main idea. Typically, a hortatory text consists of the
following components:
1. Introduction: The text begins by introducing the topic and stating the writer's position or opinion
clearly. It often includes a thesis statement that presents the main idea or argument.
2. Arguments: The body paragraphs of a hortatory text present a series of arguments or reasons
supporting the writer's position. Each argument is typically presented in a separate paragraph, and
evidence, examples, or facts may be provided to support the claims.
3. Counter Arguments: In order to strengthen the writer's position, counterarguments or opposing
viewpoints may be addressed and refuted. This shows that the writer has considered alternative
perspectives but ultimately believes their position is more valid.
4. Conclusion: The conclusion of a hortatory text restates the main idea or argument and
summarizes the supporting points. It often includes a call to action, urging the readers to embrace
the writer's viewpoint or take specific steps.

One of the key steps we can take to address global warming is to reduce our reliance on fossil
fuels. Burning coal, oil, and gas releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, intensifying
the greenhouse effect and trapping heat in the atmosphere. Transitioning to renewable energy
sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power is crucial. By embracing sustainable energy
alternatives, we can significantly decrease our carbon footprint and curb global warming.
