86 The current work depicts the Navagraha or the nine
planetary Gods of Hinduism. Badri Narayan drew much
86 of his inspiration from Indian mythology. Here, he offers
us intimations of eternity. In Vedic astrology, the unbound
PROPERTY OF A FRIEND OF THE ARTIST celestial energy is depicted through the seven visible
planets and two shadow planets, namely Surya, Chandra,
BADRI NARAYAN Guru, Shukra, Budh, Mangal, Shani, Rahu and Kethu (as seen
in the painting from left to right). Surya and Chandra are
1929?–?2013 regarded as the two most important celestial bodies, which
is the reason they lead the procession.
