Pratap Chandra Sinha, born in Roshora, Murshidabad in
1827, was bestowed with the title of Raja Bahadur by a
Sanad on 20th April, 1854. He was appointed to the
Companionship of the Star of India by Lord Canning, then
Viceroy of India. Pratap Chandra was a strong advocate for
education, establishing a number of primary schools and
high schools, the High English School at Kandi among
them. He also made contributions to the construction of
hospitals and set up a free dispensary at the Paikpara
Rajbati.
