Art for Arthritis - Selected Artist
“The World Through Nighisha’s Eyes”
I worked several years creating pieces of art with children suffering from arthritis. This particular piece was painted by a blind girl named Nighisha
She confided in me that one of her fears is that she would never be an artist. Nighisha was going blind. I showed her work by famous vision-impaired artists such as VanGogh and Monet. I assured her that she could be an artist, and in fact, could do anything she wanted. She just had to learn to do it her own way.
With nose touching canvas she drew out a landscape. When she backed away, she could not see the canvas to paint it. I traced her work with hot glue so that she could feel it to paint it. We asked participants at the art auction to touch the painting so they could see the world the way Nighisha sees it.
