Stone Soup
A folktale from Europe
Once upon a time, there was a long dry
spell. The people of one village didn’t have
much food. A young girl solved the
problem of scarcity for that day’s meal.
"Let’s make stone soup!” said the girl.
"All we need is a big pot of water and
wood for a fire .”
Some people brought a little water.
Others brought logs for the fire.
"Here I have a stone from the
river,” the girl said. Plop!
