Whereas I think that the best that can often be done when analyzing love is speculation. What is biology and what is choice? What is subconscious and what is reason? Many people appear to be able to overrule their chemicals and millions of years of evolution. Others can’t. The infinite variables between each person makes the speculation endless. However, that doesn’t demean the great help that knowledge of biological and evolutionary influences might yield.

You can’t get more personally intimate with someone than if you’re sharing their bed and naked body, seeing them much of the day, helping to raise kids with them, or achieving economic viability with them. However, if you believe in evolution, then one of the first corollaries that flow from evolution is that the category of people that you want—be it men, women, or LBGTs—is determined by evolution, your DNA, early childhood interjects, or other unconscious forces. That is, the fact that you are attracted to women or men or LBGTs is not something you control. It is not personal choice, regardless of how much conservatives may wail otherwise.
