Some feel that changes in the missionary-monogamy norm may lead to infinite sexual perversion — a world-wide Sodom and Gomorrah with forced, unnatural sex foisted on their under-aged daughters and sons. Philosopher Allan Bloom calls it a “diversity of perversity.”29 It is a terrifying possibility. Thus progress in the sexual area of gay rights is especially impressive. Conservatives have to transcend their deepest fears to accept them. Many have!
It seems so easy when such transformations do happen, but so far away when they don’t. Of course, changes may not happen. But hidden behind brutal facts are often mind prisons that, once opened, can quickly change tragic realities.

All this may sound like the same old hysterical hype to exhausted baby boomers. But there’s a heroic reason for our exhaustion. We’ve been hacking a trail through a tangled jungle of massive historical momentums, and in the face of devastating conservative attacks.
First, we should thoroughly celebrate our many victories. Conservatives still can’t believe that we elected a black President. Obama’s blackness is a great victory even if he does nothing else of lasting liberal consequence. Celebrate for a long, happy time.
