but most people have elements of freethinking.
And Nietzsche would have to admit that today’s freethinking liberals — and conservatives — approach his ideal of the Overman — at least in theory.
Friedrich’s enthusiasm over the “eternal recurrence” a la the movie Groundhog Day seems stretched. Even as a metaphor it’s stretched. Most people do not want to relive all their entire life
the exact way it happened before. Just from sheer boredom, if nothing else. Of course, if not for all your life that went before you wouldn’t be where you are now. But that is Nietzsche’s “amor fati” or love
of fate. Which seems much more sensible. If you like where you are now.

Fundamentalisms that make brain prisons are
the real enemy. They often sneak into our lives masquerading as massively powerful institutions. Anger is one of the easiest passionate meanings to attain. It is also very destructive, especially when translated into killing or war. Hollywood knows this
as can be seen in the number of movie and TV scenes involving angry arguments, and the number of story lines about murder or war. But hopefully humanity will learn to be passionate about other meanings as well. Passions intense enough to be the moral equivalents of war.
