in medical school. The tobacco companies would come by the frat houses and leave free cartons everywhere. If you bought them, cartons cost five cents. I smoked on and off for twenty- five years. Slowly science proved the health risks, and as a doctor, I thought I should set an example and so quit for good. It took a few months of starting and stopping before it took, but I don’t believe I was ever addicted to nico- tine.
Another example of how I was not free of cares was when taking an economics class from Daddy. In order to insure that nobody thought he was doing me favors, I intentionally made a B or a C. Nor was I much interested in girls. I don’t remember my first girl friend, being too involved in other things.
