Module 2: High-Pressure CNG Fuel System Components
MODULE 2: OVERVIEW
Introduction Compressed natural gas vehicles have unique components and features because natural
gas is stored onboard vehicles at 3,600 psi and then the pressure is decreased by the
regulator before gas enters the engine for combustion. Technicians must identify and
understand the high-pressure components of NGV fuel systems and their functions to be
able to safely work on or around NGVs.
Importance The information presented in this module will help you understand how natural gas
vehicles work and the high-pressure components.
Module Overview This module presents the three different types of CNG fuel systems (dedicated, bi-fuel
and dual-fuel), as well as the typical high-pressure components and their operational
functions.
Learning Objectives Differentiate between the three types of CNG systems and their operations
Identify the major high-pressure fuel system components
Describe the purpose of each component
