Four Types of CNG There are four types of CNG cylinders defined primarily by their manufacturing materials.
Cylinders They are labeled or identified by number.

Type 1: All-metal (steel or aluminum)
▪ NGV2-1
▪ All-metal cylinder
▪ Made of steel or aluminum

Type 2: Hoop-wrapped steel or aluminum
▪ NGV2-2
▪ Metal liner
▪ Hoop-wrapped with fiber and resin
composite

Type 3: Fully-wrapped steel or aluminum
▪ NGV2-3
▪ Metal liner
▪ Fully-wrapped with fiber and resin composite

Type 4: All-composite (non-metallic)
▪ NGV2-4
▪ Non-metallic liner
▪ Fully-wrapped with fiber and resin composite
