17.05 DEFINITIONS.
For purposes of this chapter, certain words and terms are defined as follows:
GENERALLY. Words used in the present tense include the future; the singular
number includes the plural number and the plural number includes the singular
number; “building” includes “structure”; “shall” is mandatory and not directory.
Any words not herein defined shall be construed as defined in the State and
Village building codes.
ABUT OR ABUTTING. Having property lines in common.
ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT. A habitable living unit added to, created
within, or detached from a single-family dwelling, that typically provides the basic
requirements for living, sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation and is usually
subordinate in size, location, and appearance to the primary unit. Accessory
dwelling units may not be income-producing. A “mother-in-law suite” is an
example of an accessory dwelling unit.
ACCESSORY USE. A use subordinate or incidental to, and located on the same
lot as, a principal use.
ACCESSORY STRUCTURE. A structure, including a facility or building, which
is subordinate or incidental to the principle structure.
ADDITION. A completely new structure or new component to an existing
structure.
