As the salt piles up and reaches a maximum height, new grains of salt will fall o  toward whichever side of the triangle is closest. Points that lie along an angle bisector will be the same distance from each of the sides that form that angle. This is why we see ridges form in the salt. The point where two angle bisectors meet is the same distance from all three sides of the triangle (It’s the same distance from the  rst and second sides, and the same distance from the second and third sides, so it’s the same distance from all three sides). That point where the three angle bisectors meet is called the incenter of the triangle. It is a point that is the same distance from all three sides of the triangle. Here is
