“Now that you’ve played with the chunks, let’s put them all back together again into a sentence. And let’s see how playing with the chunks adds to our under anding of the meaning of the sentence and our focus que ion. Let’s see how recon ructing helps us under and how English works.”
• Pointtoandreadtheentiresentenceondisplay:Vashtisplashedhercolors with a bigger brush on bigger paper
to make bigger dots.
• Read the sentence aloud again.
• Ask:“Whatotherque ionscanweaskthatwillhelpus under and this sentence?” (Responses will vary.)
“Now what do you think is the meaning of this sentence?” (Responses will vary but may include: Vashti made bigger
and bigger dots.)
“How does this Language Dive help you under and how Vashti’s feelings changed at the end of the  ory?”
(She was happier and more excited because she was
making bigger and bigger dots.)
• If productive, use a Goal 1 Conversation Cue to encourage  udents to expand the conversation about the sentence: “Can you say more about that?” (Responses will vary.)
