“Is Brian feeling invisible or visible in this part of the  ory? How do you know?” (He feels visible because Ju in talked to him. He has more color to him.)
• Addthewordvisibletothebottomrowoftheanchorchart. Refer to the Brian’s Change anchor chart
(for teacher reference) as necessary.
• Draw udents’attentiontothepicturesonthe
Brian’s Change anchor chart. Ask:
“Silently  udy the pictures on the anchor chart. Do you notice any details changing?”
(Brian’s color is changing.)
• Selectvolunteerstoshareouttheirobservationsaboutthe pictures and an explanation of why that
detail is important. If  udents have not pointed it out, focus attention on how Brian’s color is
changing and explain that it shows how he is feeling about
what is happening at school.
• Support udents’under andingbychoosingafewpictures
to draw attention to and ask.
• Reviewthefocusque ion:
- “What happened at school to make Brian feel more visi-
ble?”
• Invite udentstowhisperananswerintotheirhandsand
ask: “What is one thing you will do as a close reader to  nd out what happened to make Brian feel more visible?” (Re- sponses will vary, but may include:
look at the illu rations closely)
• Draw udents’attentionbacktoTheInvisibleBoyandread pages 21–26 without interruption.
