Do I judge others? Yes I do. It seems as if it is easier to forgive others whose sin is the same as mine. But yet, I tend to be quick to judge others whose sin is not present in my life.
To solve this dilemma perhaps I should look at the fruit of my life. I wonder if it is real? As I sit here in Nairobi, Kenya having gone through three days of intense meetings working on a project to get starving children out of poverty, my excitement soars as I work on the solution to solve this problem. But as I walk down the streets of the Mathare slums I see these children living in devastating conditions. Why does my heart not break for them like it used to break? Has my heart become so desensitized that I have become numb to their pain? Am I simply getting fulfillment from the project’s challenge and not it’s purpose? How can I sit in HOG meetings and my heart not break as I look around the room at the bikers who do not know Jesus.
Am I building my house on the sand? Is God using this foolish man to accomplish His will? Perhaps it is better to be a foolish man that is used by God, than a foolish man who is not being used by God. However, in both cases I am still a foolish man.
As I ponder this passage and how it relates to my life I am filled with more questions than answers. Perhaps it is time for intense prayer, fasting, and searching of scripture. Perhaps a more serious look at the spiritual disciplines in my own life. Next time I sit in those HOG meetings I must do it with a heart that breaks for those bikers who are far from God. But more importantly I must put the words of Jesus into action.
