Black Sheep Coach

I had a HOG chapter member ask me if I would be his coach. Not sure exactly what he meant by that so I asked him what he would expect me to do. He said,” I just need someone to coach me through this time of my life.” I told him I would meet with him on a regular basis just to talk through what’s going on.
When I got back to my office decided to do some research on being good coach. First question I asked is, what is a coach? I remembered a few months ago, I watched the movie Cinderella with my granddaughters. In that movie I watched the familiar scene where a pumpkin was transformed into a beautiful coach. That coach was used to transport Cinderella to the ball. How many times have we heard the story of Cinderella?
The word, Coach can mean different things, as with most words of the English language. The origin of
the word began in a small village in Hungary during the 15th century. The village Kocs became famous for building carts that transported goods by horse or oxen from one place to the other. Over time they enclosed the cart to transport people in comfort. The cart that they developed to transport people was known as, Kocsi. Over the centuries we get the name coach.
The word became a metaphor in England when tutors began to carry students on their exams. That meant the tutor would help or carry the student from one level of learning to the next, thereby helping them pass the exam.
Now the word coach can be used in many ways, but the concept of moving us from one place to another is still the same.
