Bazaar, originally, was a public market district of a Persian town. From
Persia, the term spread to Arabia (the Arabic word sūq is synonymous),
Turkey, and North Africa. In India, it came to be applied to a single
shop, and in current English usage, it is applied both to a single shop
or concession selling miscellaneous articles and to a fair at which such
miscellany is sold, sometimes for charity.
