Personal Note
In this book, I’m going to explain to you, in
plain English, everything you need to know
about estate planning in Minnesota. There is
no complicated “lawyer speak.” For over 25
years, business owners and higher net worth
individuals clients have asked me many of the
same questions about estate planning. What
happens if I don’t do any planning? How does
designating beneficiaries to a 401(k), IRA or
other securities accounts affect my estate plan?
How much is this going to cost? How do I know
if I need a lawyer or not? Should I do a will or
revocable living trust? Why are wills cheaper?
My aim with this book is to help answer those
questions.
My perspective comes from having led a group
of 4-10 lawyers for 25+ years, all practicing in
different areas of the law, but primarily serving
my clients (high net worth individuals,
technology companies and real estate
investors). I have learned much from my
partner, Nathan Nelson, J.D. LL.M about tax
and estate planning over our decade plus of
working together and the multiple advanced
estate planning lawyers and firms that I have
served as a facilitator on a national stage. I
