               TO: DR. BRENDA ELLINGTON

               FROM: THOMAS BROUSSARD

               SUBJECT: SELF-EVALUATION

               DATE: 02/26/2020

During class registration, I presumed this course would be focused primarily on writing
procedures and technical specifications. It was a pleasant surprise finding out that my assumption
was entirely wrong. The wide range of writing assignments offered a great opportunity to become
proficient at some of the communications skills required in today’s workplace.

From the first assignment in Module 1, I was excited and pleased with the practical benefits I was
receiving while doing my Academic Progress Report. The exercise not only demonstrated how to
compose a report, it provided me with a much clearer understanding of my present status.
Building upon that, the next assignment of creating an instructional presentation really gave me
an opportunity to design and experiment with a project in PowerPoint.

While working alone was a challenge, the next several weeks were truly demanding. The
experience of working on a team was extremely fulfilling though. I gained an appreciation for
diversity and a clearer perspective of teamwork. Dues dates were coming at break-neck speed and
it was a very rewarding feeling completing the assignment. The feedback from fellow students
               was also uplifting.

I could really say that the only thing about the course that didn’t work well for me was the
assignment dues dates. Over the past couple of years, this is the only class that didn’t have each
week’s assignments due on Sunday evening. As a full-time worker, I was spoiled by being able to
focus on my profession Monday through Thursday and then spending my days off on course
               work.

Regardless, I believe I did a great job juggling the workload. I am also proud of the quality work I
handed in each week. I typically have a hard time writing, but the subjects in this class were
interesting (or left up to the student to pick) and that made writing a lot easier. My design skills
have also improved over the past 7 weeks as a result of the proposal assignment.

As for real-life implementations of the technical writing skills learned, heck I have a fresh,
updated resume from the adventure. Hmmmm…. Who knows what could come next.
