WHATS UP?
If you were walking about The Club on
Friday, September 21, 2012 you might
have spotted this: the NASA Boeing 747
SCA (Shuttle Carrier Aircraft) carrying the
Space Shuttle “Endeavour”. This four and
a half hour flight, the last leg of trip which
began at the Shuttle Landing Facility at
Kennedy Space Center in Florida, origi-
nated that morning at Edwards AFB and
made several passes over the Palmdale ar-
ea (where the shuttle was ‘born’) before
heading north to overfly Sacramento, then
on to the San Francisco area, and finally to
Los Angeles, landing at Los Angeles Inter-
national Airport. At LAX Endeavour was Photo and research by John Vogel
removed from the 747 and, on October 12
and 13, was towed over city streets to its
new home, the Los Angeles Science Center at Exposition Park. The SCA (the first of two 747s so modified) would make one
more trip, from LAX to Houston, where it is on display at the Space Center Airpark near the NASA Johnson Space Center.
