‘Turnip’
creativity
The art world has the Turner Prize; Wrap
Around Care has the Turnip Prize. The
prize drew entrants from the boys and
girls who attend WAC to demonstrate
their creativity. The results were
surprisingly successful.

STEAM class
In a first for Heriot’s, departments
collaborated in the creation of an Art
in Science interest class for S6 pupils.
At the heart of this class was STEAM,
an educational approach to learning
that combines science, technology,
engineering, the arts and mathematics,
and encourages student enquiry,
dialogue and critical thinking.
More importantly, it was also a place
that allowed our students to explore,
create, question, and experiment
with fascinating facts, projects and
activities. Through discovery-based
learning, we all carried out experiments
and created artistic masterpieces and
learned new technologies enabling
us to see how art and science work
together in the real world.
The topics covered in this innovative
class included 3D modelling of organs,
laser cutting of structures found in
science, and embroidery of shapes or
structures found in biology.
