on – albeit
remotely
During remote learning, P3 pupils in music
lessons were encouraged to select their
favourite instruments and then create a
labelled poster about that instrument.
Meanwhile, P6 musicians reviewed their
favourite music and designed a CD cover for
that recording.

Computational
Challenges
In Term 1, more than 340 pupils from P1 to
S6 participated in the Bebras Computational
Thinking Challenge at home and in school. The
Bebras Challenge is an international competition
in which pupils have to solve a number of fun Benjamin Smith (P3) Freya Southall (P3)
logical-thinking problems online. These puzzles
tested our pupils’ skills in areas such as pattern
recognition, decomposition, and algorithm
creation.
Some 118 P6 to S6 pupils scored in the top
10 percent nationally and were invited to take
part in another competition aimed at developing
talented computational thinkers, the Oxford
University Computing Challenge (OUCC).
The OUCC was held in February, with 96 pupils
taking part at home. James Tan (P7) said: ‘The
OUCC was a step up from the Bebras Challenge
and you really needed to do lots of problem
solving. Despite this, I really enjoyed completing
the challenges because they were harder so they
made me think a bit deeper. I especially loved all
the Blockly challenges.’
