A soothing boost
to wellbeing
Project Soothe is a citizen science initiative
run by a team of clinical and developmental
psychologists based at the University of Edinburgh
and Anglia Ruskin University. Their mission is to
develop a bank of soothing photographs that can
be shared with others to improve mental health
and wellbeing. The Love Your Mind team became Amelie Waldron (S1) Michael Sherriff (S1)
aware of the project through the Schools Health
and Wellbeing Improvement Research Network,
of which Heriot’s is a member.
We wanted to take part in order to create a
Heriot’s ‘Soothe Gallery’ that could be used by
anyone in the community as another way to
‘distribute cheerfullie’. At the start of March,
some of the more than 100 images submitted
went live. The hope was that by passively viewing
soothing images you will feel safer, calmer and
more content. That notion can be put to the test
by viewing the images here. Izzy Jackson (S2) Rory Gallagher (S2)
