Have you considered leaving a gift
to Heriot’s in your will?
A gift in your will is a fantastic way of supporting Heriot’s, leaving a lasting legacy that will positively impact the lives of
countless young people yet to walk through the gates on Lauriston Place.
Naturally you will provide for your family and friends in your will. Once they have been taken care of, you may wish to
support causes close to your heart too. A gift in your will allows you to leave your mark on Heriot’s much like George himself.
Legacy gifts are an incredibly flexible way of donating – there is no minimum or maximum amount, they can be pledged
and updated at any point in your lifetime, they can be monetary, possessions or stocks/shares or even a percentage of your
overall estate. A gift of as little as 1% of your estate can be made which can then be used for a cause close to your heart at
Heriot's or you can choose for it to be put towards the school’s area of most need at the time of receiving your gift.
A gift can be included in your will at the time of writing or added to an existing will through the use of a codicil – a separate
document that alters part of your will but leaves the rest intact. In other words, a gift to Heriot’s can be included in your will
at any time of your choosing.
There is a reduction in the Inheritance Tax payable by your beneficiaries should you leave 10% or more of your estate to
charity. This reduction can mean a gift to charity does not alter the final sum you had planned for your beneficiaries receive.
To find out more about ways you can include a gift to Heriot’s in your will, or to notify us
of your bequest, please contact the Alex Sharp in the Development Office by emailing
