Health and Recrea on Facili es
Councils Health and Recrea on facili es are spread over two sites. The recrea on centre located within the Palmerston City Centre is managed for Council by the YMCA and features has two large courts suitable for a variety of court sports including Basketball, Netball, Indoor Soccer (Futsal), Indoor Volleyball, Badminton and Gymnas cs.
The facility also has a fully equipped gymnasium and group tness class rooms. There is also a half-court basketball area outside for general use.
The second site is the Palmerston Swimming & Fitness Centre also managed by the YMCA, located in Moulden which houses a 50m Olympic swimming pool and a toddler pool. In addi on to the Pools, the site is surrounded by a grassed area with picnic facili es along with a Health Club and Gymnasium a ached to the Kiosk building. YMCA membership gives members access to both the City and Moulden facili es.
In terms of usage it is noted that during peak mes (4pm – 8pm) the Indoor Basketball Courts are booked to capacity, booking enquiries for further booking during this me suggest that an addi onal court could easily be accommodated and be fully occupied during peak hours.
While the current aqua c facili es are in good condi on it is noted that maintenance costs are increasing as the pool begins to approach its es mated life span of approximately 40 years (approximately 2028).
While the size (area and courts) of the facili es suggest they should be adequate for the popula on of Palmerston (in comparison to other similar municipali es and best prac ce standards) membership sta s cs reveal that 27% of YMCA members live outside of the Palmerston Municipality. This places a higher reliance on the facili es as they operate as regional facili es rather than solely Palmerston residents in terms of member patronage.

THE FACILITY ALSO HAS A FULLY EQUIPPED GYMNASIUM AND GROUP FITNESS CLASS ROOMS. THERE IS ALSO A HALF-COURT BASKETBALL AREA OUTSIDE FOR GENERAL USE.
