Paystubs & W-2s
Paystubs
The Federal government does not require that employers provide employees with
paystubs. However, this rule varies by state. Some do not require pay stubs, some
require paper pay stubs, and others allow electronic pay stubs that employees can
print at their leisure. Pennsylvania falls into the latter group, but verify the rules to
confirm you are in compliance, if you have employees in other states. f i n d y o
W-2s u r p e r f e
W-2s are provided to the government and employees at the end of each year to c t
report their total taxable wages and withholdings. Note that depending on various
Federal, state and local laws, the gross wages in each of the boxes may vary. These p
boxes should show the taxable wages to each jurisdiction, which may be different i
than the gross wages actually paid. W-2s are due to employees no later than t
January 31st each year. Also, if you choose to provide employees with only an c
electronic W-2, you must have them complete a consent form first. h
