Advanced searching (phrases and / or operators etc)
Advanced Search
Narrow down search results for complex searches by using the Advanced Search page. For
example, you can find sites updated in the last 24 hours or images that are in black and white.
How Do an Advanced Search?
1. Go to the Advanced Search page.
• Advanced Search for websites
• Advanced Search for images
2. In the "Find pages with" section, enter your search terms.
3. In the "Then narrow your results by" section, choose the filters you want to use. You
can use one or more filters.
4. Click Advanced Search.
Phrase Searching
When using search terms containing more than one word, enclosing them in quotation marks,
returns documents containing the exact phrase only. Here’s an example: When searching for
information on gun control legislation, using “gun control” eliminates documents that contain
the words gun and control, but not in that order, and possibly having nothing to do with gun
control.
Google Search Operators:
1. Find internal duplicate content and other indexation errors
2. Find news results from certain sources to spice up your content 3.
Find pages that contain certain keywords
4. Find quotes and force accurate results for long-tail keywords 5.
Find direct competitors
6. Find original research, statistics and case studies on a certain topic
7. Find out how Google is categorizing your site
8. Find backlink and content opportunities
9. Quickly gauge the competitiveness of long-tail keywords
10. Find sites that have a specific keyword in their URL
Advanced search is a built-in feature of Google (and most search websites) that allows a user to specify additional
requirements for a search. When used for searching the Web, an advanced search gives additional information to Google,
which helps refine the search.
