P. 5
Jesus’s temptation follow three patterns
that are common to all men.
1.The first temptation concerns the lust of
the flesh (Matthew 4:3–4). Our Lord is hungry,
and the devil tempts Him to convert stones into
bread, but He replies with Scripture, quoting
(Deuteronomy 8:3). Yes, he humbled you by
letting you go hungry and then feeding you witJh
manna, a food previously unknown to you and
your ancestors. He did it to teach you that
people do not live by bread alone; rather, we
live by every word that comes from the mouth
of the LORD.
