Page 9 - Lessons from the Gospel of John Chapter 1 verse 1-5
P. 9
1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom
are all things, and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom
are all things, and we exist through Him.
Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold
together.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made
that was made. [him.: (Jesus)]
John 1:3 The role of Jesus as Creator is established in verse 3. The
universe is not the product of mindless matter, but an intelligent Creator.
In John 1:1 and John 1:2, Jesus is said to be identical to God. Here,
Scripture makes the interesting point that nothing created was created
apart from Jesus. This proves that Jesus is not an angel, a man, or some
other formed being. Secondly, it implies a difference between things
which begin to exist, and the One who always existed. There is one that
did not "begin to exist," which did not "come into being." This one—and
only—God.
