2 feet of end hanging from the thumb side of your
right hand, the standing part extending from the
thumb side of your left hand, and about 3 feet of line
between your hands. By turning your hands inward
and toward each other, you form two loops and cause
the end to swing over the standing part. As it does so,
change its lateral motion to vertical motion by flip-
ping outward with the right wrist and moving your
arms sharply away from you (see detail). The idea
is to get the end to flip completely around the loop
on your left hand and emerge between the two loops.
It’s a very kinetic knot that requires practice. To fin-
ish, reach in through the left loop from the outside
with the left hand, and grab the right loop. Grab the
standing part with your right hand. Pull your hands
apart. Voilà! (This knot takes 30 times as long to
describe as it does to make.)
