A Word from the Director-General
What define an attractive city is not merely with its booming economy, but from its rich art and cultural heritage.
Taichung, selected as Taiwan’s most livable city, is known for its geographically advantageous weather. Another
important factor that engages visitors is its diverse and liberal artistic vibe. Amidst the dynamic and blossoming
cultural scene, the Taichung Contemporary Artists Invitational Exhibition is definitely one of the most anticipated
activities. This major exhibition, held every summer, is limited to the artists of Taichung. This year, it will take place
from August 11th to 28th at the Dadun Cultural Center’s Dadun Gallery, showcasing the most radiant blossoms of
artistry.
The purpose of holding the Contemporary Artists Invitational Exhibition is to provide a platform for local artists
to showcase their creations while fostering exchanges between artists. This exhibition not only stands as an
annual event that gathers the artistic elite from all over Taichung but also serves as a significant benchmark for
government-held joint art exhibitions in Taiwan, boasting the highest number of participants. Since its debut in
1999, the exhibition has invited 5,675 artists to participate and has attracted an audience of over 580,000. The
number of participants has been increasing year after year, with 358 artists engaged this year, breaking the
previous record.
To encourage artists to continue their artistic creation and submit new artworks, new measures were implemented
in this year’s Contemporary Artists Invitational Exhibition, requiring all participants to submit brand new artworks
created within the past year. This measure was taken in the hope of stimulating diverse art forms and sparks of
creativity by accepting fresh creations. Among this year's participarts, the oldest is 95-year-old prints artist Mr.
Yang, Yun-Mo; while emerging millennial artist Ms. Wang Xiao-xuan, who won the first prize in the watercolor
category of the 28th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City, is the youngest participant. Both artists have
strived for innovation, displaying a dynamic that is both creative and intergenerational.
