4-Drying and storage:
▪ cardiac glycosides containing drugs must contain not more than specific moisture
content, It should be stored in sealed containers over dehydrating agents.
▪ It is sometimes recommended to heat-stabilize these cardiac drugs by destroying the
enzyme at high temperature. However, at much elevated temperature the tertiary
hydroxyl group at C-14 may split off as water, with the formation of an inactive
anhydro-form of the cardiac glycoside.
