Promoting Heart Health
Promoting heart health among employees is crucial for their overall well-being and
can contribute to a healthier and more productive workforce. Here are some tips for
managers to promote heart health and reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease
among their employees:
1. Encourage short breaks and stretches to alleviate the negative effects of prolonged
sitting. Research has linked sitting for long periods with several health concerns.
2. Ensure that workstations are designed ergonomically to reduce the risk of
developing cardiovascular issues related to sedentary work habits.
3. Recognize the connection between mental health and heart health. Promote
mental well-being initiatives and provide resources for managing stress, anxiety,
and depression. The Company EAP is a wonderful tool for resources and
information.
4. Support employees in scheduling regular check-ups and doctor visits by offering
flexible work hours or paid time off for preventive healthcare.
5. Organize team events or participate in local health initiatives to promote heart
health awareness. Anything that gets people moving is positive.
Does Your Location Have an AED?
The placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the workplace is
crucial for quick response and effective treatment during sudden cardiac emergencies.
Ensure that AEDs are placed in highly visible locations with clear signage. The goal
is to have AEDs placed in locations that maximize their accessibility and minimize
the time it takes for trained individuals to reach and use them in case of a cardiac
emergency. Additionally, it’s important to have employees trained in CPR and AED
usage so they can respond effectively in emergencies.
